      This set of resources is considered a standard encyclopedia of scholarly research in music, primarily for classical and jazz. They contain articles about instruments, styles, composers and performers, with extensive bibliographies and discographies. Also searchable online at       Oxford Music Online.

    • International Who’s Who in Music. ML106 .G7 W443. Vol. 2: Popular. Contains information about living musicians (education background, associations, performances, specialties, and contact or management information).

        Broad international coverage indexing journals, books, dissertations, conference proceedings, Festschriften, and more covering all areas of music.
      • International Index to Music Periodicals 1874-present  
        Indexes scholarly and popular music publications with abstracts and some full text.
      • JSTOR Journal Storage Project  
        56 music journals are available in full-text through JSTOR. Coverage is usually from the first issue to 3-5 years before the present.
      • Project MUSE  
        Searchable full text of over 100 scholarly journals in the humanities, social sciences, and mathematics, mostly from North American university presses. Older volumes are often available from JSTOR.
      • Index to Jewish Periodicals  
        Though not online, this is a great author and subject index to selected American and Anglo-Jewish journals of general and scholarly Jewish interest. Most recent volumes of the index are available in the Alderman Reference area, call number: Z6367 .I5.

        the Database of Recorded American Music, allows you to search liner notes for keywords. Try searching "jewish" or "israel."
      • Smithsonian Global Sound  
        contains music from around the world, much of it in the field-recording genre. The site allows a wide range of searching options, for instance: cultural group (Jewish, Jewish-American), language (Hebrew, Yiddish), ensemble (Klezmatics).
