Finding Books and More
To find books held by the U.Va Library, you'll want to use VIRGO. Getting started is as easy as going to the Library's home page -- www.library.virginia.edu -- and typing a keyword or book title into the VIRGO searchbox.
VIRGO can help you find books, journal articles, images, maps, government documents, manuscripts and rare materials, and digitized materials.
Once you've entered a search, use the tips below to become an expert VIRGO researcher:
- Pay attention to the left-side columnVIRGO presents results in tabs. Each tab will have a different set of filters here.
- Get book/s delivered to youClick "Request Item" to have the book delivered to your home, or "Request Scan" for a known portion of a book sent as a .pdf.
Borrowing Books from Other Virginia Libraries
The UVA Library is part of a statewide library consortium called VIVA. One program that this organization administers is a cooperative borrowing agreement for students at 49 schools across the state.
This means that any UVA student (or faculty) can borrow materials at these participating libraries. The link below shows borrowing limits and fines for each school. A student can simply present valid UVA ID or have the other school’s librarian check the UVA online directory to confirm status.
