Library Basics

A quick guide for people new to using the University of Virginia Library

What is Interlibrary Loan?

The University of Virginia Library holds more than seven million items and provides access to articles in over 500 databases. Even so, there may be times when you need an item or article that the library doesn't have in its collection. Don't despair! You can request items through Interlibrary Loan (ILL). When you make a request through ILL, the Library obtains the item or article from another institution and makes it available to you.
