MUSI3010: Studies in Early Modern Music (1500-1700)

Chicago Manual of Style

There are many different style guides for citations, but the most common in the arts is the Chicago Manual of of Style (CMS) method of documentation. There are two citation systems in the CMS: author-date, which is most commonly used in the sciences, and notes and bibliography, which is most commonly used in literature, history, and the arts. For this course, you'll use the notes and bibliography system, in which sources are cited in numbered footnotes, corresponding to a raised number in the text. Your sources will also be listed in a separate bibliography.
