Electronic Corpus of Anonymous Homilies in Old English (ECHOE)
"ECHOE is a digital text corpus currently counting 553,249 tokens in 337 manuscript versions of Old English anonymous and Wulfstanian homilies and saints’ lives edited from 60 manuscripts, version by version. Composed, copied, and recompiled between the ninth and early thirteenth centuries, many of these homilies exhibit significant variance and textual mutability, but they also share popular religious themes and motifs as well as features of a common technical language of preaching. Drawing upon diverse sources that include hagiography, apocrypha, patristic writings, law texts, poetry, penitentials, prayers, and even medical instructions, these texts were repeatedly performed over time in recurring liturgical and ritual contexts to changing audiences."
