The University of Virginia Library and the Institute for the Study of Knowledge Management in Education (ISKME) are pleased to offer this unique professional learning opportunity, supported by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. The OER & AI Fellowship Program will support a small cohort of participants who will engage with generative AI tools, curate and create resources, and collaborate to explore the use of artificial intelligence in the service of Open Education. There are two pathways for Fellows: one pathway will focus on resource curation with ten Fellows receiving $750 stipends, and one pathway will focus on resource design with two Fellows receiving $2,000 stipends.
Fellows will participate in 12 monthly collaborative synchronous one-hour work sessions to review curated OER about AI and discuss the impact on open education practices in their institutions and the learners they serve, as well as complete approximately ten hours of asynchronous work including engaging in online discussion posts, curating and creating resources, providing feedback, and sharing best practices.
The deadline to apply is January 24, 2025. Applicants will be vetted and notified by February 14, 2025. The Fellowship Program will officially kick off in March, 2025. Fellows will receive a stipend upon completion of synchronous webinar sessions and asynchronous work. Eligible applicants include individuals from institutions of higher education and K-12. Applicants will be selected based on applications materials, specifically:
Current and past OER project examples
AI expertise
Personal statement on motivation and inspiration for Fellowship; how it would affect their own professional growth
Ability to commit to participation in program events and workload
Diversity of institution and communities served
