• Materials related to the history of the state of Virginia
• Indexes and inventories related to archival collections held around the state and country, at historic societies, or other libraries
• Materials supporting biographical or genealogical research on individuals who lived, immigrated to, were enslaved in, or otherwise passed through Virginia
• Genealogy and history magazines or journals related to Virginia history
• Selected histories and oral histories
