Scholarships and Fellowships
Definitions
Scholarships are awarded to individuals based on demonstrated merit, scholarship, or intended course of study. The scholarship may be restricted to an individual in a minority group or of a particular economic status. There may be restrictions on the scholarship, such as limiting its use to tuition or textbooks.
Fellowships are awarded to individuals, generally to accomplish a specific task, such as to complete a book or teach a specific course.
Stipends generally provide living expenses to an individual while undertaking research or other study.

- Pivot
Pivot is a funding discovery tool, available to all UVa faculty, staff, and students. It has a large database of funding opportunities. Similar to GrantForward, but offering search results that don't always overlap with GrantForward, it is useful to use both of these tools when searching for funding opportunities.

- College Navigator (U.S. Dept. of Education)Find information on colleges and universities and how much they cost. Search on programs and degrees offered, tuition costs, test scores required, and more. Free.
- FastWeb!One of the best collections, nearly 200,000 items, of free scholarship information on the Web. Includes handy links to College and University financial aid offices. Free, but requires lengthy initial registration.
- FinAid - The Smart Student Guide to Financial AidFinAid was established in the fall of 1994 as a public service. This private award-winning site has grown into the most comprehensive source of student financial aid information, advice and tools -- on or off the web. Free.
- New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) SourceDatabase of nearly 12,000 grants, residencies, and other sources of assistance for artists in all areas. Brought to you at no charge by the New York Foundation for the Arts. Free.
- Student Aid on the Web - U.S. Dept. of EducationThis is the Federal Student Aid Gateway, provided by Federal Student Aid, an office of the U.S. Department of Education.
