Research Funding Discovery Tools and Databases
A number of funding discovery tools available to UVA users are listed in the section below.
- GrantForward
GrantForward is a funding discovery tool, available to all UVa faculty, staff, and students. It has a large database of funding opportunities. UVa subscription; create your own account (using your virginia.edu email address) to gain access to all features. Reach out to us, or to the Research Development Team in the VPR's Office for help. - Foundation Directory Online
This database features contact information on grantmakers in the U.S. including private foundations, community foundations, grantmaking public charities, and corporate giving programs. Also offers IRS 990 forms of foundations. To acces: UVa Subscription, simply click on the link above. Access is only available via the proxy server. - VPR Research Development Page
UVA VPR Research Development Office - with information on Limited Submission Opportunities, Large Collaborative Proposal Development, Internal Funding, and potential Partners for Broader Impact. They can also provide some limited assistance with graphics for proposal submissions. - Grants.govGrants.gov is the primary source for finding U.S. government grants. NOTE: Only the UVa Office of Sponsored Programs is authorized to submit proposals via Grants.gov.

- Grant Advisor PlusThis site includes a monthly update of grant announcements in many subject areas plus backfiles. Library subscription. Please access On Grounds or through UVa Proxy account.
- Economic Research InstituteOffers copies of IRS Form 990 for non-profit organizations. Free.

- UVA Office of the Vice President for ResearchThis is the Research Funding Opportunities webpage on the VPR site, which provides many links to a variety of sites offering funding for research.
- UVA Office of Sponsored ProgramsThe Office of Sponsored Programs manages the University's many grant-funded fiscal accounts. Available on this page are current federal fringe benefit and F&A (facilities and administration) rates, along with useful guidelines for grant proposals.
- UVA Corporate and Foundation RelationsCFR offers various services to all UVA units and schools, including the Health System. They assist with foundation grant writing, proposal development, corporate partnership cultivation and more.

- Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR)CLIR is an independent, nonprofit organization. - Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS)The Institute of Museum and Library Services is the primary source of U.S. government support for the nation’s libraries and museums.
- National Endowment for the Arts (NEA)The NEA is a U.S. government grant-making agency that primarily funds artistic initiatives. Through its Save America's Treasures grant, the NEA also funds preservation of past artistic endeavors.
- National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH)NEH is an independent grant-making agency of the United States government dedicated to supporting research, education, preservation, and public programs in the humanities.
- National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC)The NHPRC promotes the preservation and use of America's documentary heritage essential to understanding our democracy, history, and culture, and offers U.S. government grant funding with that goal
