Interlibrary Loan Services

Submit an Interlibrary Loan Request

The library will get a PDF copy of the journal article or a book chapter and email it to you. If you request a book, once the library gets a copy for you, they will send you an email stating it is available for you to pick up at the UVA Library that you designated as your pickup library when you registered for an interlibrary loan account.  The due date for the item will be provided on a slip inserted into the book. Return books you have acquired through interlibrary loan to any UVA library or UVA book return.

If none of the UVA libraries have the journal or book you need in print or online*, use the Library's free Interlibrary Loan Service request form to request it. You must first open an interlibrary loan account. You can register below.

*To determine whether the library has a copy of the article you need, use either of these tools.

Although the Library owns or has access to many items, there will be times that you need something it does not own such as a book or journal article.  When this occurs, you can ask us to borrow the item or obtain a copy of an article from another library.  To use this service you must be a faculty, staff or student at UVA and you must register for an account.
