Welcome to UVA, all!

The library orientation this year is a walking tour of a variety of locations in three different libraries. At each location, you'll find a poster and scan a QR code to access a video about the space that you're in!  You'll need to find all nine (9) posters in the three different libraries. The posters aren't hidden – I’m not making you hunt for them. They should be easily visible. But if you don't see a poster, ask at the library desk.

Why am I making you walk around? Well. Because, let's face it, the libraries are kind of intimidating. They're huge, there are a lot of them, they're full of people, and the layout isn't always clear.

And it’s important to get to know the Library because it’s way more than you may expect! This tour won’t cover everything about the Library – that would take a while. But it will start to give you an idea of what the Library offers.

You can take a friend or do this as a group! You don't have to do this alone. Each person has to take the survey individually to get extra credit but groups are fine as long as you can all listen to or read the videos.

I’ve outlined the tour in the next page but you also don't actually have to complete the tour in this order. The videos are set up to lead you from one poster to the next which may be helpful. But you do you. And feel free to wander around and explore each space and Library. There are two more floors in Clemons in addition to the ones you’ll need to explore for this tour and Special Collections has some great exhibits up right now. And there are six other libraries that I’m not even going to make you go into!

Once you’ve watched all nine videos, to get extra credit for STS 1500 for completing the library tour by submitting a survey on the last video poster. You have from January 23rd to February 6th to complete the tour.

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out! My email and contact info is included on the "Having Trouble" page and I’m happy to help you however I can.

Have fun!

Maggie

You'll Need:

To complete the tour, you'll need:

1. Headphones

If you'd like to listen to the audio of each video, please use headphones to avoid disrupting others in the library.

**All the videos include captions if you'd like to mute the audio and just read along.

 2. A tablet or smartphone.

The tour uses QR codes. Any smartphone or tablet camera should read these automatically.

If you do find that the QR codes aren't working on your device, please email me at maggie@virginia.edu and we'll figure out an alternative for you to use!
