Journals in Microform

Introduction

Parliamentary Journals record the proceedings and decisions made in each house. Journals have been printed for each session of Parliament since 1509 for the Lords (preceded by the Rolls of Parliament) and since 1547 for the Commons (except for the period 1584-1601). See more on
using the Journals of the House of Commons
from the University of Wisconsin.  Note: The cumulative indexes to the Commons Journals and to the Lords Journals include references to every bill, public and private, whether they were passed or not.

Holdings and Finding Aids

Great Britain, Parliament. House of Commons. Journals of the House of Commons
v.1-155 (1547-1900),
Micprnt S-2,  Alderman Stacks, 3 OLD

Official record of actions taken in the House of Commons.

Finding Aid:

There is a separate box of indexes at the beginning of the set.  The indexes are broken down into a group of years which are indexed together. For example, vols.56-73, 1890-1900 will be covered by one index.

The subject index (called an "Alphabetical Index") will give roman numerals followed by arabic page numbers. The roman numerals will refer to volume numbers which are listed on the microprint cards in arabic form. Thus LVI, 328 refers to Volume 56, p. 328. (See *Vandercook, p. 66.)
