Software on Library Public Computers

A list of the software on the public computers at the University Library.

Library Public Build Computers & Software Available in the UVA Libraries

All patrons have access to web browsers, Microsoft Office 2021, and Adobe Acrobat Reader DC.

This software is available to UVA faculty, staff and students logged in with UVA ESERVICES computing IDs:

  • Hive (Remote Apps client to access the ITS Hive)

Library Public Build Computers & Software in the Scholars' Lab (Shannon 308)

The Scholars' Lab has two types of workstations in its public space (Shannon 308).

1. GIS/3D Data Processing Workstations (UL-ESL308-01 to -04)

All patrons have access to web browsers, Microsoft Office 2021, and Adobe Acrobat Reader DC.

All patrons have access to additional software installed:

  • ArcGIS Pro 3.3
  • ArcGIS City Engine
  • GeoMagic Design
  • FARO Scene
  • QGIS 3.38
  • Google Earth Pro

This software is available to UVA faculty, staff and students logged in with UVA ESERVICES computing IDs:

2. Public Computers with Scanners (UL-ESL308-05 + sheet feeder | UL-ESL308-06 + flatbed)

All patrons have access to web browsers, Microsoft Office 2021, and Adobe Acrobat Reader DC.

All patrons have access to additional scanning, design, & OCR software installed:

  • Epson or Ricoh scanner software
  • ABBYY FineReader Cloud - Standard
  • Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Adobe Acrobat Pro (in place of Acrobat Reader)

This software is available to UVA faculty, staff and students logged in with UVA ESERVICES computing IDs:

Brown Library Data Computer

We offer a computer with a large amount of memory and faster processors in Brown Science & Engineering Library (Room I-043). This is especially helpful when using software that relies heavily on RAM, like Stata. Datasets and specialized research software are also loaded onto this machine. We have 20 laptops, for instructor use only, located in a cart in Shannon 308.
