Resources for Alumni
So you have graduated. Congrats! Unfortunately, that often means losing access to all the awesome library content that UVA has to offer. You can find some good alternatives listed below.
Academic Literature:
Sadly, once you graduate, you lose access to almost all online content that UVA Library provides. If you are in Charlottesville, alumni (and any non-affiliated community patrons) are always welcome to check out books at UVA Library. You can also connect to our wifi to access paywalled journal articles when you are in our buildings. Alumni do have access to HoosOnline:
- HoosOnline - Online Library for UVA AlumniLifetime Learning provides alumni with free access to a robust online research library featuring six databases with over 10,000 journals and articles, many of which are full-text. These databases are available free of cost to all University of Virginia alumni through your HoosOnline account. Whether you have returned to school, work for a major corporation or stay at home with children, the library databases can be a great intellectual resource. Search the databases to keep you up-to-date on the latest topics, discoveries, business books or wellness information.

- MEDLINE: Medical Database
Find open access articles:
- Unpaywall and OAButtonUnpaywall and OAButton are two browser extensions that help you find open access (i.e., freely available) versions of articles. You might use this if you come across an article that asks you to pay for access.
Citation Manager:
- ZoteroI hope you have been using Zotero all along! Zotero is an excellent, freely and open citation manager.
